Congratulations on your acceptance to graduate studies at Rhode Island School of Design. The opportunity to focus on one’s own practice and to engage in critical dialogues in art and design is an essential part of what it means to be a graduate student at RISD.
As your practice grows through new experiences, we will work with you to develop your capabilities in critical thinking and critical making. This is an opportunity to not only learn deeply about your chosen field of study, but also to learn about yourself, the way that you think and how you move through new modes of critical reflection, practice and discovery.
As a graduate student you will have access to specialized facilities throughout the college, and will also have opportunities to teach, research, exhibit, travel and collaborate. I encourage you to make the most of these and to engage fully with this creative community of artists and designers.
Given RISD's global mission, our community includes students and faculty from more than 60 countries, a fact that makes us immensely proud. Regardless of the political climate in the US, we will continue our commitment to openness and inclusivity. RISD’s core values reflect a belief that a vital creative community celebrates and embraces individuals of all identities and from all cultures.
