Completing your enrollment is just the beginning. Below you'll find additional paperwork to be completed and deadlines to be met over the spring and summer. Updated information regarding orientation programs will also be posted here as it becomes available.

Summer program shipping opens

RISD has partnered with Jones Storage to meet the shipping needs of incoming students. If you'd like to ship belongings to campus prior to the start of your program, please check out the detailed instructions for new students provided by Mail Services.

Fall semester shipping opens

Housing application due

If you wish to live in RISD Housing, please complete an application via our portal. A user name and password to enter this site will be sent once your enrollment deposit is received.

Health forms due (for summer programs)

RISD Health Services requires all new students to submit health forms. Please be aware that your registration is not considered complete until your completed and signed forms have been received by Health Services. Students who have not submitted completed health forms will not be able to receive their course schedule and begin attending classes.

ID card photo deadline (for summer programs)

Please submit a photo that meets the following requirements to cardservices@risd.edu:

  • A clear, high-quality photo with a plain light-colored background
  • A front view of your whole face alone
  • Taken within the last three months
  • No hat or dark glasses
  • JPEG format


Graduate orientation webinar

12 pm – 1 pm EDT

This webinar offers incoming graduate students a closer look at our graduate community and provides meaningful insight into student life at RISD. We'll do our best to answer any questions you have about moving to Providence in a Q+A session.

Summer Orientation begins/residence halls opens

Graduate students enrolled in the MDes summer program and MArch summer program participate in Summer Orientation.

International students who require a visa to study in the US will also be required to participate in International Student Orientation (beginning August 30). Graduate students who participate in the MDes and MArch summer programs are also asked to attend New Student Orientation (beginning September 2).


Deadline for off-campus students to register address with Office of Residence Life

The addresses of off-campus residences must be registered through the Housing Portal.

Health forms due (for fall semester)

RISD Health Services requires all new students to submit health forms. Health insurance waiver deadline (for summer programs)

The summer health insurance waiver is optional and only for those students enrolled in summer programs who do not want to participate in RISD's health insurance plan. Information about immunization requirements can be found through RISD Health Services.

Residence halls open for TLAD Master of Arts in Teaching summer session

Students staying on campus for TLAD summer session must also live on campus for the academic year.

International student orientation begins

International student orientation (through September 1) is required for all new graduate students who require a visa to study in the US. If you do not require a visa but consider yourself part of the international student community, please email orientation@risd.edu.

International orientation for parents/families begins

This program runs through Saturday, September 1 and is open to the parents/families of all incoming undergraduate and graduate international students (see schedule below for details).

Fall semester classes begin

RISD Weekend

Running through October 7, RISD Weekend brings alumni, parents, students and friends to campus for an inspiring celebration of everything that makes RISD extraordinary—the people, the studios, the discourse, the work. The two and a half days feature a special mix of exhibitions, panels, talks, tours and demonstrations—along with plenty of other opportunities to engage with the campus and its incredible mix of artists and designers.
